Owner & Executive Creative Director
Richard received a BA from Duke and then ventured to New York City where he honed his skills in copy writing, marketing, and production management while working in theater, film, television and commercial advertising. In 1986, Richard joined Vaughn Wedeen Creative (VWC) and quickly became a partner and its Director of Accounts & Creative Strategies. In 2014, he purchased VWC dba Vaughn Wedeen Kuhn (VWK), wound down that company’s operations and launched RK Venture LLC.
For thirty years, Richard has successfully reached beyond New Mexico’s borders building relationships with an impressive list of private sector clients including: the Arizona Cardinals, Charter Communications, Citi, Comcast, Cox Communications, Disney Imagineering, Hewlett-Packard, Homex (Mexico), IHS, Intel, Levi Strauss, Motorola, Time Warner, and Turner Networks. In California, New Mexico and Texas, he established and supervised projects with the cities of Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Round Rock, Santa Fe, LA Metro, Metrolink, Mid Region Council of Governments (Rail Runner), The National Hispanic Cultural Center, New Mexico Departments of Economic Development, Higher Education, Public Education, Transportation, and Tourism, the New Mexico State Fair and The Santa Fe Opera. Richard helped develop effective marketing strategies and guided the overall creative direction, execution and implementation of campaigns for all of these clients. He is honored to have led the creative team that has helped New Mexico reduce DWI related fatalities by approximately 40% as well as effectively addressing seatbelt usage, speeding, distracted driving (texting while driving) and underage drinking. And, he has led the Metrolink creative team to attract new riders to take the train and help reduce traffic congestion in Southern California. In addition to effectively raising public awareness about all of these issues, many of the Metrolink and NMDOT campaigns Richard has directed have won national and international advertising awards.
